The Period Ironmonger is an online business who source and sell some of the finest reproduction architectural ironmongery available. They came to us with a legacy website built on the WooCommerce platform that had nose-dived on Google and suffered from technical issues. We were tasked with re-platforming the site, giving the brand a visual overhaul, and restoring the site to page one of Google.

One of the first tasks we did was to give The Period Ironmonger brand a refresh. We designed a stylish new logo that reflected the intricate ironwork design of times gone by, yet still looked clean and modern. We then created a new style guide for the brand, complete with heritage colour palette and classic typography.
The new branding was then used to create business cards, compliment slips and as the basis for all new marketing materials moving forward.
The previous site had some technical issues, which meant that Google had not been indexing the site correctly, reporting thousands of duplicate pages. It was vital that these issues were resolved with the new website. We planned and implemented a series of 301 redirects to help Google understand where content could be found. Every key page on the site was also designed and built to maximise its on-page optimisation with well-structured, semantic code. The results show that the duplicate page issue has been resolved, and the site now ranks for far more keywords in Google.
A big consideration of any re-platforming job is the migration of the website data to the new platform. This proved to be quite challenging due to the way that the WooCommerce data was structured. The solution was to write custom data migration scripts that converted the old data into a format which could be successfully used with the new site.
